How the truck gets to East Fort Myers & Alva

East Fort Myers is a straight run east on the south bank. For Alva's north bank, the truck crosses upriver.

Tice, Fort Myers Shores, Olga and Buckingham sit on the south bank, the same side as our trucks, in a straight line east from Fort Myers. For homes on the north bank of Alva, the truck crosses upriver on the Alva Bridge or the Wilson Pigott Bridge, and both are drawbridges, so a passing boat can hold it up.

Lee County handles the permits

Tice, Fort Myers Shores, Olga, Buckingham and Alva are unincorporated Lee County, so a replacement door is permitted by the county, even for a same-size swap. Close to the city line, some addresses fall under the City of Fort Myers instead, so we check which office applies before we file. Garage door permits in Lee County.

Barns, workshops and RV bays

Out toward Buckingham and Alva, plenty of properties have a pole barn, a workshop or an RV bay with its own tall door. Taller doors carry heavier springs and longer tracks, and they need the right parts on the truck. On RV and tall doors, most repairs take about half a day, and installing a new one takes one to two days on site once the permit is in hand.

A step down on the wind map

Lee County's wind map puts the far northeast of the county, including Alva and parts of Buckingham, in the 150-mph band, a step below the 160 mph most of Fort Myers is built for. The whole county is still a wind-borne debris region, and a new door out here still needs its own Florida Product Approval, rated for the site. Wind-rated doors.
