Tall garage doors for the RV, the boat and the barn

On the acreage out in Alva, Buckingham, North Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres, the garage is often a metal building with a door tall enough for a motorhome or a boat on its trailer. Those doors are big and heavy, and the springs, cables and track have to be sized to match.

  • On site: Half a day to repair; one to two days for a new door, after the permit
  • License CGC15***68

Tall door wearing out, or too short?

  • Lifting the door by hand takes real effort, or the opener strains near the top: the springs are tired or undersized.
  • A cable is fraying or rusted at the bottom corner.
  • The track has pulled away from the building's frame or sags at the curve, and the door rubs or jumps the track.
  • The lower sections bow in when the wind picks up.
  • The new RV or the boat's T-top barely clears the opening, or doesn't.

Bigger door, bigger springs

A tall door has more sections, more weight and longer tracks. The springs have to match that weight, and the cables and drums have to be rated for it. We size the springs to your door, which on a tall one can mean ordering them rather than pulling them off the truck. If that's the case, we tell you during the first visit, along with when the parts are due.

Measure before you buy

For a new door, the number that matters is clearance: from the floor to the highest point of the RV, or of the boat on its trailer, with the roof air, antennas and T-top counted, plus room to spare. We also measure the headroom above the opening, the room at each side for the track, and check that the building's frame can carry the door and its opener.

Permit and wind, out on open land

Every new door here goes in under a permit, with a Florida Product Approval that matches the wind speed at your site. On Lee County's map, Alva and parts of Buckingham and eastern Lehigh Acres sit in the 150-mph band; North Fort Myers and most of the rest are in the 160-mph band. A big door on open land takes a lot of wind, so the approval and the anchoring to the frame matter. We pull the permit when the job needs one. How permits work in Lee County.

Questions about RV & tall garage doors

Enough to clear the highest point of the RV, roof air conditioner and antennas included, with room to spare. We measure the RV and the opening before we quote a door size.

Most repairs take half a day. A new door means one to two days of installation, after the permit is approved and the door is delivered.

Yes. Replacing or adding a door takes a permit, and the door's Florida Product Approval has to cover the wind speed and exposure at that address. For repairs, we check with the office for your address and pull the permit when the job needs one.

Yes, tall sectional and roll-up doors on storage buildings and bays. Send a photo of the door and its label, and you'll hear back whether it's a door we service.

Tell us what the door is doing

A person answers, day or night. Describe the door or text a photo, and you'll hear what it probably is, how long the fix takes and when a truck can get to you.
